Forgivingness

« Back to Glossary Index

Forgivingness is a relatively stable personality trait describing an individual’s general tendency to forgive interpersonal offenses across time and situations. It reflects how readily a person lets go of resentment, blame, or the desire for retaliation, independent of any single event. Unlike forgiveness, which refers to a specific act or process, forgivingness captures an underlying capacity or orientation toward forgiveness.
