Forgiveness

« Back to Glossary Index

Forgiveness is a process people engage in after being hurt by someone they care about. It involves working through anger, resentment, and the desire for retaliation, and may include a willingness to see the other person more fully — within the context of their limitations, intentions, or circumstances. Forgiveness doesn’t require forgetting what happened, excusing harmful behavior, or restoring a relationship to what it once was. For some, it opens the possibility of repair and continued connection. For others, it is an internal shift that allows them to move forward, even in the absence of reconciliation.
