Subsyndromal

« Back to Glossary Index

Subsyndromal describes symptoms that don’t meet the full criteria for a formal disorder, specifically referring to incomplete versions of symptoms that are clinically present but don’t form the full cluster of a major condition. In bipolar disorder research, it often refers to residual symptoms that linger even when a person is technically in remission. An example is a person who no longer meets the criteria for a depressive episode but continues to struggle with subsyndromal fatigue or low motivation that interferes with their work or social life.
