Neurocognitive deficits are a general term for decreased mental function caused by aging, neurological illness, mental illness, drug use, or brain injury. Neurocognitive disorders can include delirium (severe, short-term loss of brain function), mild neurocognitive disorder (decreased mental function but able to stay independent), or by Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, and other vascular conditions.
