Dissociative Disorder
« Back to Glossary IndexDissociative disorder is a severe form of dissociation when someone leaves normal consciousness, experiences forgetfulness, has memory gaps, forms different identities within their mind, thinks they or the physical world aren’t real — affecting their sense of identity and perception of time. Causes include trauma, sexual/physical assault, childhood abuse, combat, car accidents, natural disasters, or a serious mental health disorder (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia).
