Delirium
« Back to Glossary IndexDelirium is a serious disturbance in mental abilities results in confused thinking and reduced awareness of surroundings. Delirium usually comes on fast — within hours or a few days and can be traced to such factors as a severe or long illness or an imbalance in the body, such as low sodium. It may also be caused by certain medicines, infection, surgery, alcohol/drug use or withdrawal. It is a mental disturbance also associated with BD mania. It may last hours to days but can sometimes have longer-term cognitive impacts if severe.
