Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT)
« Back to Glossary IndexVirtual reality therapy (VRT), also called virtual reality immersion (or exposure) therapy or computerized CBT (CCBT), is a type of biofeedback that uses virtual reality technology to navigate anxiety-provoking situations. Computers and visual immersion devices generate simulated experiences programmed to diagnose/treat phobias, emotional dysregulation, trauma, or chronic pain. In a digital world isolated from other sensory inputs, we gradually think, feel, and behave as if in the real world. The VRT and biofeedback technology measure the body’s responses and help us adapt to being less fearful and anxious. Technology can range from a simple PC and keyboard setup to a virtual reality headset. Also see Psychosocial VRT
