Victim Playing or Playing the Victim

« Back to Glossary Index

Victim playing or playing the victim, also called victim card or self-victimization, is the perceived fabrication or exaggeration of victimhood to justify narcissistic abuse or manipulation of others. It’s also used as a coping strategy, for attention-seeking, or to avoid responsibility. A professional victim is a repeat offender. An actual victim is someone or something that has been hurt, damaged, or killed or has suffered, either because of the actions of someone or something else, or because of illness or chance.
