Ventral Striatum

« Back to Glossary Index

The ventral striatum is a small conglomeration of several brain areas together (located deep within the center, just above and behind our ears)—responsible for higher cognitive functions and sensory processing — contains the nucleus accumbens and olfactory tubercle. It’s central to how we experience reward, anticipate pleasurable experiences, and make decisions based on potential rewards, heavily influenced by dopamine signaling.
