Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS)

Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) sends electrical impulses to areas of the brain, altering brain activity. (Vagus nerves on each side of the body run from the lower part of the brain through the neck to the chest and stomach.) Evidence shows stimulating and strengthening the vagus nerve can reduce symptoms associated with bipolar depression, depression, and other mood disorders.
