Treatment-Resistant Bipolar Depression (TRBD)

« Back to Glossary Index

Treatment-resistant bipolar depression (TRBD) inflicts up to one-third of people with BD, who don’t respond to adequate doses of medications. Although there’s not a single definition of TRBD, a common understanding is that symptoms fail to improve after treatment of at least two “therapeutic agents.” So far research on TRBD treatments has shown limited results, but scientists continue to investigate effective therapies and innovative approaches that could show promise.
