Transmembrane Protein Receptors

Transmembrane protein receptors are sensitive to mechanical or thermal changes. Their cell membranes contain proteins, causing physiological changes (increasing ion flow across the membrane) that generate graded potentials in sensory neurons. Receptors activated by chemical molecules (ligands) initiate sensory processing.
