Tourette’s Syndrome

« Back to Glossary Index

Tourette’s syndrome is the most severe tic disorder and involves sudden, brief, or intermittent movements (motor tics) and sounds (vocal tics), neither wanted nor easily controlled. Severe symptoms might significantly interfere with communication, daily functioning, and quality of life. Experts estimate some 300,000 U.S. children — with males 3-4 times more likely than females — to develop the disorder.
