Tetrachromacy

Tetrachromacy amplifies the eye’s ability to distinguish shades of colors, including some not visible to most people. This “super vision” condition results when another type color receptor is present in the eye. Normal color vision includes 1 million colors; tetrachromacy perceives 100 million color variations. It’s a rare genetic phenomenon believed to only affect females. Up to 12% of women worldwide may be tetrachromatic.
