Synaptogenesis
« Back to Glossary IndexSynaptogenesis forms synapses between neurons in the brain and nervous system, important for learning, memory, cognition and neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to change anatomically and functionally (like after injury). Synaptogenesis peaks in the early postnatal period. The prefrontal cortex (PFC), which is responsible for personality and behavior, undergoes particularly rapid synaptogenesis during adolescence. It’s also a response to learning and memory as people age.
