Stroop Test

« Back to Glossary Index

The Stroop test is the oldest, but still-used experiment in cognitive psychology research to understand cognitive conflict. It uses stimulus conflict tasks to examine how the brain processes conflicting information and manages cognitive control. The Stroop effect happens when study participants have to say the color of the word spelled out (green) but appearing in a different color (red), causing confusion and slowing down reaction time.
