Stimming Behaviors

Stimming behaviors, also called self-stimulatory behavior or stereotypy: Stimming is a repetitive behavior involving the body, objects, or noises, common to autism, but also a behavior we can all have at some time. Stimming has many purposes: calming down, reducing anxiety, sensory stimulation or coping with sensory overload, expressing frustration, relieving physical discomfort, managing emotions, or distracting oneself.
