Somatosensory Cortex
« Back to Glossary IndexThe somatosensory cortex in the cerebral cortex (in the parietal lobe), processes most sensory information (touch, pain, temperature, motion) — like telling the texture of objects by processing sensation from moving our fingers and hands. Damage to the somatosensory cortex can cause numbness or tingling, with face/hands being most vulnerable.
