Social Anxiety
« Back to Glossary IndexSocial anxiety, also called performance anxiety, is one of the most common forms of anxiety and can be accompanied by significant distress or depression, functional impairment, and substance abuse problems. We may fear being embarrassed. It’s also a trait of covert (vulnerable) narcissism. It includes fearing embarrassment in a social situation or being judged or made fun of (being seen as stupid, weak, or anxious). When prolonged, it may become social anxiety disorder (SAD) or social phobia.
