Sexual Minority

« Back to Glossary Index

Sexual minority refers to people whose sexual identity, sexual orientation, or sexual behavior differ from most of society, including the LGBTQ+ community. It also includes people who have a difference in sex development. Sexual minorities may experience discrimination, such as verbal insults, threats of violence, physical assaults, and fewer legal protections. They may also experience healthcare disparities, divorce, poor quality of life, legal inheritance denial, educational institution exclusion, and government job suspension.
