Sex assigned at birth, also called birth sex, natal sex, or biological sex, is the gender (male, female, or intersex) that a medical professional labels a baby as at birth, based on their external anatomy. It’s usually based on the baby’s genitals but can also include other medical factors like hormones and chromosomes.
