Sensory Stimulation/Activity

« Back to Glossary Index

Sensory stimulation/activity are events or objects, internal/external, which activate one or more of the senses. Sensory stimulation activities can be used to help people with difficulty perceiving stimuli or who interpret them differently, as in autism or dementia. Examples include hand massages with scented lotion, listening to music, games, crafts, gardening, concerts, or exercise. Unusual responses to sensory stimulation are called hypo– or hypersensitive reactions.
