Sensory Modulation Disorder (SMD)
« Back to Glossary IndexSensory modulation disorder (SMD), a form of sensory processing disorder (SPD), changes neural messages conveying information about the intensity, frequency, duration, complexity, and novelty of sensory stimuli. Those with SMD may experience one of three subtypes in response to sensory input: sensory over-responsivity, sensory under-responsivity (or hyposensitive), and sensory craving/seeking.
