Sensory Defensiveness

« Back to Glossary Index

Sensory defensiveness is hypersensitivity causing us to avoid or react aggressively to any stimulus we interpret to be negative, even if not negative. It can trigger fight-or-flight response (FFR), affect communications, relationships, and learning — leading to withdrawal, anxiety, and frustration. Also see Sensory overload or Modulation Disorder (SMD).
