Sensorimotor Synchronization (SMS)
« Back to Glossary IndexSensorimotor synchronization (SMS) is our ability to coordinate physical movements with external rhythm — timing actions in alignment with a perceived rhythmic pattern, like tapping a foot to the beat of a song or clapping along to music. Complex brain mechanisms are involved in SMS — coordinating sensory perception and motor planning in time with an external stimulus, essential for dancing or playing music.
