Sensorimotor Network (SMN)
« Back to Glossary IndexSensorimotor network (SMN), also called somatomotor network, is one of the largest of several highly interconnected brain networks, which includes motor and somatosensory cortices (in the gyrus regions). The SMN integrates/processes sensory inputs from the body (touch, pressure, temperature, proprioception/body position) and initiates motor commands that allow for coordinated voluntary movement, like reaching, grasping, walking, and even simple finger movements. SMN may also include the auditory and visual cortices.
