« Back to Glossary IndexSelf-promotion is a deliberate strategy to present oneself in a highly positive light to gain admiration and status in comparison to others. Narcissists with a grandiose and inflated self-concept engage in extensive self-promotion by emphasizing their strengths, accomplishments, and often embellishing the truth or manipulating others. It can backfire if seen as bragging or insincere. They increasingly use social media to fuel their need for admiration and support their fragile self-image. Also see Admiration Pathway
