Self-Identity Spectra

« Back to Glossary Index

A self-identity spectrum is not limited to a binary choice but is fluid and evolving — allowing for a range of expressions within categories of gender (male, female, nonbinary), sexuality, ethnicity, personality. We change over time as we learn more about ourselves. What’s most important is how we identify ourselves on the spectrum, as our personal experience is unique. A second, more traditional self-identity spectrum ranges from strong to weak. If we see ourselves at the weak end, we can benefit from professional help.
