Self-Enhancement

Self-enhancement is the narcissist’s pervasive, intense motive to build and maintain an inflated sense of self by portraying a grandiose, positive, and superior public image. Beyond self-esteem, it involves a defensive effort to make themselves appear  exceptional by comparing themselves to others and attributing successes to internal abilities while blaming others for failures.
