Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)
« Back to Glossary IndexRepetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a neurostimulation treatment, less powerful than electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which uses magnetic waves to target brain regions involved in anxiety disorders. It doesn’t require general anesthesia or elicit generalized seizure activity in the brain, with low risk of negative effects on memory/thinking. rTMS has not been approved as a treatment, despite reports it improves anxiety symptoms in panic disorder.
