Reaction Time Variability (RTV)

« Back to Glossary Index

Reaction Time Variability (RTV) refers to inconsistent speeds in responding to a stimulus, which are reaction times to cognitive tasks measured in seconds and milliseconds. Higher RTV indicates greater inconsistency in response time — a sign of difficulty maintaining focus. RTV is a part of ADHD, autism, traumatic brain injury, and schizophrenia. Individuals may show more variability in their response times compared to others. Also see Variable Motor Timing
