Phenotypes

« Back to Glossary Index

Phenotypes are the observable expression of our genetic code (genotype) and the influence of environmental factors. This includes morphology (physical form/structure), developmental processes, biochemical/physiological properties, and behavior. Polymorphic phenotypes occur when two+ clearly different phenotypes exist in the same population of a species, as in Labrador Retrievers’ coloring, seen as yellow, black, or brown.
