Personality:

« Back to Glossary Index

Personality is a psychological construct describing unique patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors distinguishing us from others. It remains fairly consistent throughout life — we tend to show recognizable and regular behaviors that can help predict and explain our or others’ behavior, like  being generous, caring, perfectionist. Influences range from genetic effects to environmental and experiential impact. The most common theoretical frameworks for personality typing is type A (perfectionist, impatient, competitive, work-obsessed, achievement-oriented, aggressive, stressed) and type B (low stress, even-tempered, flexible, creative, adaptable to change, patient, tendency to procrastinate). Other common traits:

  • Agreeable: Cares about others, feels empathy, enjoys helping others
  • Conscientiousness: Highly thoughtful, good impulse control, goal-directed
  • Eager-to-please: Accommodating, passive, conforming
  • Extraversion: Excitable, sociable, talkative, assertive, emotionally expressive
  • Introversion: Quiet, reserved, inward thinking, likes time alone
  • Neuroticism: Stressed, mood shifts, anxious, easily upset, struggles to bounce back
  • Openness: Creative, desire to try new things and tackle new challenges
