People-Pleasing Behavior
« Back to Glossary IndexPeople-pleasing behavior implies an extreme need to gain approval by constantly conforming to others’ expectations, often at the expense of our own needs (and difficulty saying no). In contrast to social preference, people-pleasing is driven by low self-esteem, fear of rejection, or a history of needing validation from others — and is most likely associated with ADHD, anxiety, and stress when boundaries are not set properly.
