Peer Rejection:

« Back to Glossary Index

Peer rejection is being disliked or excluded by classmates, co-workers, or social groups, leading to feelings of social isolation and low self-esteem. Being deliberately left out of social interactions or being the subject of gossip/rumors can have lifelong mental health consequences: depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Such feelings can also trigger aggression or withdrawal, negatively affect academic/work performance, and raise divorce rates.
