Parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) is one of two functionally distinct and continuously active divisions of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). In contrast to the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), which drives the fight-or-flight response (FFR) in stressful situations, PNS predominates in quiet “rest and digest” conditions. It conserves energy for later use and regulates bodily functions like digestion and urination.
