Nociceptors, related to chemoreceptors, are pain receptors that identify/interpret any pain-inducing, extreme, or damaging thermal/mechanical stimuli — through chemicals released from tissue damage or intense mechanical stimuli. The brain interprets the pain. Also see Sensory Receptors
