Neuroticism
« Back to Glossary IndexNeuroticism is a core personality trait characterized by tendency toward anxiety, emotional instability, negative emotions—and is one of the “Big Five” personality traits. Neuroticism exists on a high-to-low spectrum, with those scoring high being more emotionally reactive, likely to worry or ruminate, challenging to manage emotions in the moment, and reactive to perceived threats. While associated with mental health conditions, neuroticism is a personality trait, not a medical condition. Other negative emotions: fear, anger, envy, jealousy, frustration, anger, pessimism, guilt, depressed mood, loneliness, sadness, and heightened self-consciousness.
