Narcissist Power Motivation:
« Back to Glossary IndexNarcissist power motivation is a driving desire for power and status to dominate or exert influence over others and seek leadership positions. Research suggests a motivation for power plays a significant role in how romantic relationships turn out. Other studies found a link between narcissism and antisocial/aggressive or exploitative behavior, as narcissists may view these actions as necessary to maintain or enhance their power/status position. Narcissists are also more likely to select social environments to publicly display their performances, ideally in competition with others, as these settings are potentially more conducive to their power grab. The desire for power are particularly associated with antagonistic (hostility, arrogance, exploiting others) and grandiose (self-importance, entitlement) narcissism. Also see Status Pursuit
