Motivation:
« Back to Glossary IndexMotivation is an internal drive that gives us the energy, purpose, and direction to engage in an adaptive, open-ended way with ourselves, others, or the environment. If we’re highly motivated, we focus on learning, achieving specific goals, are very productive, and are more likely to have a positive outlook. Other correlating factors are interest, value, and attitude. Physiological needs for food, water, and sex serve all organisms to maintain life and, for humans, provide satisfaction from doing so. Motivation is also essential for our health, wellbeing, and growth, with practical implications in education, work, sports, and participation in daily life.
