Monitoring Progress:

« Back to Glossary Index

Monitoring progress or progress monitoring, also called self-monitoring, a core executive function in our neurocognitive system, is key to effective goal-setting. We can track progress, stay motivated, and adjust to attain goals. Daily life examples include: checking a to-do list regularly to see how many tasks are completed, reviewing study notes to gauge understanding before an exam, tracking exercise progress with a fitness tracker, and reflecting midway on a project’s progress to identify potential roadblocks and adjust plans.
