Medial Prefrontal Cortex (mPFC):
« Back to Glossary IndexMedial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is a connected hub in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of large-scale brain networks for cognitive and emotional processes. While the PFC is responsible for complex cognitive functions, the mPFC is more involved in emotion, social interactions, self-awareness, learning/memory consolidation, and acting toward internal goals. Dysfunction in the mPFC has been linked to neurological and psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, autism, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and addiction.
