Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI):
« Back to Glossary IndexMagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive, medical imaging technique used in radiology to capture the body’s anatomy and physiological processes — used for medical diagnosis and follow-up. MRI is used in psychology research to study the relationship between brain structure/function and personality/mental health, as well as brain development in children/teens. It can quantify neurobiological features, including neurotransmitters and nerve fiber tracts, as well as track changes in blood flow to show active parts of the brain. MRI scanners use strong magnetic fields and radio waves to generate images of body organs.
