Light Therapy
« Back to Glossary IndexLight therapy, also called phototherapy, is primarily used for seasonal affective disorder but also for mood disorders, postpartum depression, and jet lag. To be effective, it involves daily, 30-minute exposure to a specialized 10,000-lux light box that mimics natural sunlight. The regular exposure signals the brain to reduce melatonin and regulate circadian rhythms and boost serotonin. It overall improves energy, often serving as a non-invasive, drug-free alternative or complement to medication and therapy.
