Kinesthesia:

« Back to Glossary Index

Kinesthesia is our ability to sense body position/movement through sensations in the muscles, joints, tendons—including joint movement, joint position, muscle force/tension, and effort. It’s stimulation of sensory nerve endings in joint capsules and stretch receptors in the skin. Kinesthesia is closely related to proprioception, which senses the body’s position in space and ability to balance. Also see General Senses
