Independent Living (IL):
« Back to Glossary IndexIndependent living (IL) philosophy promotes people with disabilities having the same basic rights as anyone without disabilities—to be a part of community life, self-determined in living arrangements, transportation, social life, employment, and physical care. As part of the neurodiversity movement, IL shifts from disability needing care toward empowerment to control one’s life, take responsibility for one’s actions, and be as self-sufficient as possible.
