Hypo-Dopaminergic Trait:
« Back to Glossary IndexA hypo-dopaminergic trait is a biogenetic predisposition to lower than typical levels of dopamine activity in the brain, reducing motivation, decreasing pleasure response to rewards, and seeking more external stimulation to achieve “normal” levels of satisfaction. The effort to artificially boost dopamine can result in substance abuse, overeating, or high-risk activity—a trait found in ADHD andaddiction. Research finds genetic variations in dopamine receptors may contribute. Also see Brain Reward Cascade
