Heteronormativity:

Heteronormativity is a negative believes heterosexuality is the only natural, acceptable sexual orientation, and everyone is heterosexual by default. It also assumes people should conform to traditional gender roles and relationships. It’s negative effects include:

• Reinforcing homophobia/transphobia and discrimination against LGBTQ+ communities
• Limiting people from expressing their sexuality fully, including their gender expression, as well as hurting romantic and sexual relationships—especially harmful to LGBTQ+ youth
• Perpetuating power imbalances and limiting the rights of LGBTQ+ communities
• Being harmful to people’s nutritional health, socio-economic status, and personal beliefs
