Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD):
« Back to Glossary IndexGeneralized anxiety disorder (GAD) is diagnosed for those with worry that’s excessive, ongoing, difficult to control, and interfering with daily life. Psychological and physical symptoms cause significant distress in social, work, or other areas of life—and can persist for six months or longer, reinforcing feelings of helplessness and stress. Worries can shift from one concern to another and may change with time and age. Anxiety can occur when worries are not totally consuming, or there’s no apparent reason. Both children and adults can develop GAD and are more likely to develop comorbid anxiety disorders and depression.
