Gender Expansive:
« Back to Glossary IndexGender expansive is a flexible term describing those whose gender identity, expression, or experience is not aligned with their assigned sex and refer to people identifying as nonbinary, transgender, or binary — or as an umbrella term for young people exploring their gender identity/expression. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) coined the term in 2012 after surveying 10,000 LGBTQ+-identified U.S. youth. Gender expansive people may face a variety of stressors, including discrimination, stigmatization, victimization, harassment, peer rejection, and bullying.
